Our cooperation partner MORYX Industry – Powered by Phoenix Contact has been working on the development of innovative software for the optimization and improved controllability of production processes since 2010. The MORYX platform enables companies to digitally integrate automated and manual stations into networked production systems. This means that complex production systems can be configured just as flexibly and efficiently as a smart home. Instead of fragmented PLC, MES and cloud systems in factory environments, MORYX offers a flexible and open standard solution.

MORYX closes the gap between IT (information technology) and OT (operational technology) in production, creating digital consistency in the factory.

In addition, the powerful and easy-to-use software, which can be used across all industries, is the only solution on the market that can be used to actively intervene in the control of production processes.

Achieving an aim together: Maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

The aim

Although the distribution of production orders to lines and machines from a central system worked well, the experts at MORYX asked themselves whether this process could be optimized in terms of production efficiency.

Instead of simply adopting the data 1:1, the aim was to test the effects of using an optimization model for production planning.

At the end of this project, the overall goal is to maximize the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) in production.

The goal of the digital factory is always to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Short-term planning and rescheduling require flexibility in production planning.

The challenge

A particular challenge in production planning lies in its short-term nature. Optimization not only has to calculate the best possible solution in real time. In the event of unforeseen events such as delivery and machine failures or a reprioritization of orders, alternative options for action must also be identified and proposed.

The result

MORYX and OPTANO have worked together to develop an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that further optimizes the planning of production processes.

Rescheduling can be carried out at the touch of a button without affecting the planning quality, as OPTANO always delivers the best result based on advanced mathematical calculations.

This increases the flexibility of MORYX in a valuable way. All in all, the use of OPTANO guarantees higher capacity utilization and shorter throughput times in the factory.

IN ADDITION TO OPTANO, MORYX HAS OTHER COOPERATION PARTNERS FROM VARIOUS SECTORS. WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND IT?
We are of the opinion that we can indeed advance digitalization here in Europe, but only if we enter into collaborations. We believe that not every company should do everything themselves, as there are probably few companies that can do everything. Nevertheless, we are taking partners on board in order to equip MORYX with additional functions and thus ensure that our product continues to develop in line with market requirements.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES FOR MORYX OF COOPERATING WITH OPTANO?
We do not have the expertise when it comes to developing mathematical models for optimizing production processes. This is OPTANO's core competence. Together, we wanted to test whether a mathematically optimized sequence of production orders has a positive effect on process efficiency.
WHAT EXACTLY DOES THE COOPERATION BETWEEN MORYX AND OPTANO LOOK LIKE?
After it quickly became clear that OPTANO and MORYX have the same understanding of how to drive innovation, an MVP was created in a joint workshop, which we are currently testing extensively. All in all, I can say that the collaboration with OPTANO is very dynamic, creative and focused on adding value for our customers.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING OPTIMIZATION SOFTWARE LIKE OPTANO IN THE DIGITAL FACTORY?
With the help of the OPTANO module in MORYX, customers can make their production more efficient. For example, they need to carry out fewer set-up operations between orders and thus minimize the non-value-adding time in a production process, which either shortens the runtime or increases throughput. Ultimately, we have one overarching goal: to maximize the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) of the factory or individual systems.
