Together with OPTANO for optimal planning

How to successfully implement your optimization projects in collaboration with OPTANO

Network, supply chain, and production planning challenges are often diverse and complex. Don’t let this stop you from optimizing your planning-the greater the complexity, the greater the potential for improvement.

Intelligent, mathematically driven planning can help you identify hidden optimization opportunities and strengthen your competitive advantage. With our planning software and support, you too can improve the efficiency and sustainability of your business.

Read the following blog post to learn more about working with OPTANO and the role you can play. See for yourself: Together with OPTANO, you will be able to realize the full optimization potential of your planning in the future.

Step by step to optimal planning

The challenges of optimization projects are often so complex and specific that standard software solutions are not sufficient. We work with you to develop a solution that meets your unique planning challenges. A structured and collaborative approach is critical to achieving optimal results. Success depends on the willingness of the team to develop the result step by step and to walk the path together.

At OPTANO, we are ready to walk this path with you. We combine our expertise in agile project teams consisting of analytics consultants and software engineers. In addition, our years of experience have shown that the early involvement of stakeholders on the customer side is crucial, as they know the company’s internal processes best and have the necessary expertise.

Reach your goal with our team

Optimization projects present different challenges, but the process is often similar. At the beginning of every project, an OPTANO team is established. We combine our expertise in consulting, software development and operations research in agile project teams. In addition to the close collaboration between our analytics consultants and software engineers, the mathematical know-how of many OPTANO employees has proven itself in numerous optimization projects.

Would you like to know how an OPTANO team is organized for your optimization project? Here is a brief description of the roles in our project teams:

Analytics Consultant

One of our Analytics Consultants takes primary responsibility for your project. An additional Analytics Consultant will provide support as a sparring partner and representative. Together with you, they will analyze the initial situation, identify optimization potential and prepare the necessary data structure as a basis for the optimization model.

Software Engineer

Depending on the scope of the project, one to five software engineers work on the technical infrastructure, i.e. the actual software that supports the optimization model. The job of our software engineers is to ensure that the software is user friendly and efficient.

OR Expertise

Our analytic consultants and software engineers apply their mathematical know-how to the creation of the optimization model. With their OR expertise, they formulate the mathematical data model that corresponds to the real problem. As a result, the optimization guarantees the best scientifically sound solution for your planning challenges.

Getting there together with OPTANO

A guideline for our optimization projects

Analysis of the current situation and identification of potentials

Mathematical optimization is a powerful tool for identifying and exploiting hidden potential in complex processes. However, many companies do not know where to start to improve their planning. At the beginning of each project, OPTANO conducts a workshop in which the internal processes are comprehensively analyzed. The goal is to identify and name optimization opportunities and potential.

Clear goals and prioritization

Companies have a wide range of objectives, such as reducing costs, increasing supply chain resilience, improving sustainability, and so on. In addition, the objectives are often unclear or vague.

In compounding the diversity of objectives, companies often face conflicting goals. They strive for efficiency and innovation, while at the same time they need to achieve environmental and social success. These goals often compete for limited resources.

The more goals you have and the more they conflict, the more complex your planning becomes. When multiple goals are being pursued, mathematical optimization techniques can help identify and prioritize trade-offs. Ultimately, only a precise definition of objectives allows for targeted optimization efforts.

Data become decisions

The next step is to identify relevant data, prepare it, and make it available for analysis. This may involve creating consistent data structures and digitizing analog data. Thorough data analysis is essential to extract meaningful information from raw data.

The optimization: Modeling reality

Optimization is at the core of any planning software. Our OR experts design mathematical data models capable of accurately describing and solving complex real-world problems. The goal of optimization is to determine the optimal value of an objective function, taking into account all relevant constraints and variables.

Innovative technologies and mathematics for optimal results

State-of-the-art technologies and algorithms, as well as dedicated solvers, allow you to model correlations well. This enables you to make scientifically sound planning decisions that are in line with your pre-defined business objectives.
